Unfortunately, you cannot contact UDI to book an appointment, and you should not show up at UDI. Only the police/embassy/application center has access to their calendar for appointment bookings.
Suppose you are to submit an application for a residence permit or visa and live abroad. In that case, you must apply to a Visa Application Centre (VFS) or an embassy.
If you live in Norway and are about to apply or order a residence card, you must report to the police or the Service Centre for Foreign Workers. (external website)
Practical questions about booking appointments
Some applications can only be filled out on paper. If you have sent a paper application to UDI and therefore do not have an electronic case in the application portal, you must contact the police where you live directly to book an appointment.
How do I book an appointment with the police?
You must select the correct application portal and log in with the same user account you used when you sent the application.
This applies to most applications:
- Log in to My applications
- Find the right application
- Press “Go to Application” to get to the receipt page for the application
- Press book an appointment» and select a free appointment in the calendar
If you have an old application:
- Log in at the Application portal
- Find the right application
- Press View application» to get to the receipt page
- Press the booking button and select a free appointment in the calendar
If a booking button does not appear on the receipt page, it means that there are currently no free appointments at your meeting place. In this case you must check again later to see if free appointments have been posted.
How can I book an appointment at the embassy/VFS application centre?
When you fill in your application in the Application Portal, you select the country you are applying from. You will then receive information about which embassy is responsible for receiving your application and sending it to UDI. On the receipt page of the application, there will in most cases be information about where you must meet.
On the website of the embassy or VFS application centre you will find information on how to hand in your application documents. At some meeting points, you must book an appointment, while at other meeting points you can meet directly.
Applications for citizenship
When filling in the online application form, please choose the embassy or consulate closest to you. When handing in your documents on the checklist, please go to the embassy/consulate you selected in the application form or the Norwegian embassy or consulate-general which is easiest for you to get to (external website). You must book an appointment in advance.
I cannot find any free appointments. What can I do?
If the calendar is not visible, or you are informed that there are no available appointments in the Application Portal, we ask you to please check again later.
How can I change my appointment?
If you have booked an appointment which you cannot attend, you can change it to another date. To do this, you must log in to the Application Portal and enter the application. Then press the “change” button and select a new appointment. You will receive an email confirming the new appointment.
Why is the “change” button not visible?
If you have already booked an appointment and want to change it, the “change” button on the receipt page will only be visible if there are free appointments. If you do not see the “change” button, it means that there are no free appointments to change to now. If you are unable to attend the appointment you have booked, you must cancel it. You must then log in later to see if there are any free appointments to book.
